Boil Test

The boiling test is used to check the pre-treatment of a coating and is also done in Helbig & Lang's in-house test laboratory. In this test procedure, sample plates are placed in boiling demineralised water. The resistance class of the coating (e.g. interior vs. exterior area) determines the length of time the sample plates remain in the water bath. Then the plates are cooled to room temperature. After one hour of storage at room temperature, the cross-cut test is taken. No bubbles or detachments should be visible. The cross-cut test should give values of 1 or better.
