Gloss Level Measurement

The light which is reflected on surfaces is perceived as gloss from the human eye. The smoother the surface is respectively the more directional the beam of light is, the higher is the gloss impression. To obtain an objective result a reflector meter according to DIN EN ISO 2813 is applied.

The equipment guides a beam of light on the coated object and measures the percentage of the reflected light. Depending on the gloss range (mat, silk mat, silk-glossy, glossy) or rather the requirements of manufacturer or customer, the measuring angle can be varied to obtain precise measuring results. Especially when the painted parts have to be assembled afterwards (e.g. in the railway vehicle manufacturing or the commercial vehicles industry) a uniform gloss level of the different components is necessary. The precondition for that are constantly kept process parameter during the coating process.
